New High School

Like a puppet, Xiaoya followed her mother to the headmaster's office, then off to meet with the leader of the second year liberal arts programme.

"I'm already quite grateful to you now. I thought you would have sent me to the Seventh People's Hospital." In Nancheng, the Seventh People's Hospital was also known as psychiatric hospital.

Next to the girl's dormitory was the canteen, and Cheng Kexin took Xiaoya to go get a meal card. "You can buy a meal card on the first floor, the boys also eat here too. The girls usually eat on the second floor, while the teachers eat on the third."

Xiaoya nodded, indicating she understood.

Xiaoya was deceived by her mother's straight ball, and the silent treatment of these past days had exhausted all of her strength. Plus, she was not someone reckless enough to cause a scene, neither did she ant to make trouble at school. The head of the second year liberal arts group, was also the Chinese Language teacher for the second years. He was a short and stocky fellow, with not much in the department of looks, and seems like the type fond of talking.

Xiaoya did not repeat her words again, however, as in that instant she recalled her time chatting with Xiang Yi, Lu Xiaobei and Mo Yichen until two in the morning during the holidays where she one declared shamelessly: "If my roommate was a lily, I would throw her out."

He them said, "My surname is Li. You're Student Yu Xiaoya, right? Anyhow, I'll be your Language teacher for the second and third grade here from now on, along with your homeroom teacher. So if you have a questions about life or study, you can always come find me." This polite speech of his most likely was on account of her parents being beside her.

Cheng Kexin didn't understand Xiaoya's question, making her reply, "Huh?"

Xiaoya: "Can we sit anywhere we'd like, then?"

◈◇◈

Like a puppet, Xiaoya followed her mother to the headmaster's office, then off to meet with the leader of the second year liberal arts programme.

Xiaoya had no desire at all to say anything to her mother.

◈◇◈

Xiaoya's mother asked her, "The only remaining bed is a top bunk, are you worried about falling off?"

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

Xiaoya: "Is there anything fun?"

And how her parents were so incredibly old fashioned, rigid and stubborn that she couldn't foresee even the smallest thread of hope.

Xiaoya scoffed.

Her mother then said to Cheng Kexin, "Please take care of one another in this dorm in the future. Like eating together, attending classes..." Without knowing why, Xiaoya's mother abruptly stopped her words.

Xiaoya's mother looked around the dorm room. Ten people lived in that one space, a space only twice as big as Xiaoya's bedroom. Apart from the bunk beds, there were only two rows of cabinets, the room didn't have so much as a desk for them to use, causing Xiaoya's mother heart to faintly ache. "The bad environment here will be difficult for you when compared to your former one, but such a thing can sharpen a person."

She had no intention whatsoever of faking sincerity, but then she thought about Lu Xiaobei. If she completely ignored Mr. Li, and treated him impolitely, Lu Xiaobei would without a doubt give her a warm but reproachful look.

Like a puppet, Xiaoya followed her mother to the headmaster's office, then off to meet with the leader of the second year liberal arts programme.

Thinking about the past, Xiaoya felt her eyes sting.

Xiaoya scoffed.

Thinking about the past, Xiaoya felt her eyes sting.

Xiaoya scoffed.

She had no idea how she should tell Lu Xiaobei it was already too late.

Xiaoya had no interest in whomever threw that note, tossing it directly into the trash bin behind her.

"I'm already quite grateful to you now. I thought you would have sent me to the Seventh People's Hospital." In Nancheng, the Seventh People's Hospital was also known as psychiatric hospital.

Dormitory 520 was northward facing, meaning, it had very poor access to natural sunlight. Around the time of day they were there, the lights of the dorm weren't turned on either, so the place looked shabby. There were five bunk beds in the room. On the metal frames of these beds, were the smatterings of rust. The beds each had a blanket, but only the upper bunk of one closet to the door had boxes on top of it packed with fruits and snacks.

After Xiaoya and Cheng Kexin left the dormitory, Cheng Kexin took her to see the laundry room and the cafeteria. "This is where we wash our clothes, it's on the bottom floor of the girl's dormitory. There's no washing machine here, so the Aunties wash everything by hand. A pair of shoes is twelve yuan and a coat is twenty. There's a hairdryer in in the front so you can blow dry your hair if you need to. The dorms themselves have no electrical sockets, you can't plug any appliances." Following this, she then whispered to Xiaoya, "The school forbids bringing phones, but if you happened to bring one, the Aunties in the laundry room can charge it for you in secret, only three yuan a charge."

At her silence, Xiaoya's mother chimed in from beside her, "My daughter is a little introverted, so please take very good care of her in the future, Mr. Li."

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

Mr Li, "Of course, of course. You two were classmates with our headmaster, so we will all take care of each other."

Yunta High's management was indeed awfully strict, as compared to other high schools in Nancheng, it's new term begun one month earlier. Mr. Li went to his class and called over a girl before saying to Xioaya, "This is Cheng Kexin. She is the leader of dormitory 520, and since there is an empty room in her dorm, you'll be staying there."

Xiaoya opened them.

Xiaoya nodded.

And how her parents were so incredibly old fashioned, rigid and stubborn that she couldn't foresee even the smallest thread of hope.

Cheng Kexin sat on the platform upfront to maintain order in the classroom. Apart from reading her own books, she also scanned the class from time to time, so noticing Xiaoya looking her way she asked, "Yu Xiaoya, what's wrong?"

Lifting her finger, Xiaoya pointed to the boy and said, "That student threw something at me."

The boy opened his mouth, attempting to explain, "How could that be considered a..."

Xiaoya nodded, then opened he backpack. Inside, there were still the books she originally intended to sort out during her father's annual retreat. But not that she thought about it, her father ad mother had probably planned all this earlier. Just as Xiaoya organised her books, a crumpled piece of paper was suddenly thrown on her desk.

Mr. Li then introduced her to Cheng Kexin, saying, "Yu Xiaoya is from Nancheng and has been transferred to our class. So, as the head of the dormitory, you should aid our new student in adapting to the environment here."

Xiaoya: "Can we sit anywhere we'd like, then?"

"I'm just sad." Xiaoya used a hand to cover her eyes, causing to tears to stream through her fingers. "I'm sorry, but just let me be weak for one last time."

New High School

Cheng Kexin was a petite girl wearing hair bound in a long ponytail, she was a very cute girl. She took the initiative in introducing herself to Xiaoya, saying, "Hi."

When Cheng Kexin was finished washing her clothes, only Xiaoya remained standing in the room, he mother had already left.

Xiaoya opened the crumpled note which read: "Beautiful, that shot you just made was on point. You're both pretty and athletic. If our class ever elects its most beautiful girl, I'm definitely casting my vote for you."

With her mother also saying with a smile, "It's fine, you can go."

Xiaoya nodded.

Cheng Kexin thought it over seriously for a moment, but could only say defeatedly: "There doesn't seem to be anything. There's someone managing the self-study, but you'll be demerited for casual chatting."

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

Xiaoya: "Hello."

Next to the girl's dormitory was the canteen, and Cheng Kexin took Xiaoya to go get a meal card. "You can buy a meal card on the first floor, the boys also eat here too. The girls usually eat on the second floor, while the teachers eat on the third."

Perhaps their high school life was too monotonous, because once the second year students of Liberal Arts Class One noticed Cheng Kexin bring a new student in, they began whispering to one another, with some even throwing curious glances at Xiaoya.

She had no idea how she should tell Lu Xiaobei it was already too late.

He them said, "My surname is Li. You're Student Yu Xiaoya, right? Anyhow, I'll be your Language teacher for the second and third grade here from now on, along with your homeroom teacher. Mr. Li, "Okay then. Cheng Kexin will take Yu Xiaoya over to the dorms now. The classes for this afternoon begin with a self study class followed by two taught by me, but you can take a look around the school so there's no need for you to come."

Xiaoya opened the crumpled note which read: "Beautiful, that shot you just made was on point. You're both pretty and athletic. If our class ever elects its most beautiful girl, I'm definitely casting my vote for you."

Xiaoya scoffed.

Xiaoya's mother asked her, "The only remaining bed is a top bunk, are you worried about falling off?"

Cheng Kexin giggled happily. "Yes, Sir. I will make sure to complete this task."

Cheng Kexin stood between the mother daughter-pair, looking left and right, getting the distinct feeling she should male herself scarce. "It's rare to be able to return to the dorms during class time, no one is currently using the taps so I'll go wash some clothes."

It was a girls only dormitory, so Xiaoya's father stayed behind and only her mother walked with them to the fifth floor. Cheng Kexin took out a key, opening the room labelled 520. "Before, our class had thirty-nine girls and six boys. The girls have four dorm room in total, but ours was the only one with an empty space. Mr. Li doesn't have a key, so later this afternoon we have to go to the class and give my key to the day students so it can be copied tomorrow of the day after."

With her mother also saying with a smile, "It's fine, you can go."

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

Xiaoya: "Can we sit anywhere we'd like, then?"

The past is still vivid before her eyes, but now, the situation and people are not the same.

Dormitory 520 was northward facing, meaning, it had very poor access to natural sunlight. Around the time of day they were there, the lights of the dorm weren't turned on either, so the place looked shabby. There were five bunk beds in the room. My mother called me yesterday, she's planning to take a trip here on her soon. Maybe my mother and I can pay a visit to your parents' house. Xiaoya, about our future, I really do have a solid plan, not some pie in the sky dream. The next time you talk to Uncle and Aunty (Xiaoya's parents), ask them if we can met whenever they're free.

"What's wrong? Did something happen? Do you miss your family already? Maybe Auntie hasn't left as yet, so do you want me to go call her back?" At a loss of what to do, Cheng Kexin asked.

But it was Cheng Kexin, who upon hearing Xiaoya's mother's query, too the initiative to reply, "Auntie, I'm the one sleeping on the lower bunk. So if Xiaoya can't get used to sleeping on the top one, I can just trade places with her."

In a tone bearing no sharpness, to the point it could be said to be gentle, Xiaoya spoke, keeping her strength buried securely, buried deep. "When you transferred me, did you ever think of asking me? Am I only a pet of yours, like a dog or a cat? And so long as you feed me a can of food everyday and keep me under your roof, you can just go ahead and decide my entire life, right?"

Xiaoya and Cheng Kexin entered the classroom. Yunta High's facilities were far below comparison to Nancheng's, but the pressure to excel in study was far greater. In that room, on the desk of many students were textbooks, reference materials, etc., all piled high enough to bury someone if it ever collapse, all stacked together to cover every inch.

The washing basin and lavatory were in the same compartment, and once Cheng Kexin entered, Xiaoya's face grew three times colder, while her mother's was no longer pulled into a smile.

Xiaoya nodded, then opened he backpack. Inside, there were still the books she originally intended to sort out during her father's annual retreat. Cheng Kexin dazedly stared at this dazzlingly gorgeous girl, a girl unlike any other in her small town, who suddenly broke into tears, tears resembling falling rain.

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

Xiaoya: "Thanks, but it's no trouble. The top bunk is fine."

She had no intention whatsoever of faking sincerity, but then she thought about Lu Xiaobei. If she completely ignored Mr. Li, and treated him impolitely, Lu Xiaobei would without a doubt give her a warm but reproachful look.

Xiaoya opened the paper to see the clear, vivid and beautifully written strokes of characters which said: "Beautiful, are you a transfer student?"

Cheng Kexin then asked, "Where's Auntie? Did she leave? Yu Xiaoya, I wanted to say this earlier, your seems really nice." But Xiaoya did not say a word in reply to her, as she only stood there in a daze while staring beyond the door. Cheng Kexin walked over to Xiaoya, thinking of continuing to speak with her, but just then she saw Xiaoya was staring in the direction of Nancheng with tears streaming down her face.

Perhaps their high school life was too monotonous, because once the second year students of Liberal Arts Class One noticed Cheng Kexin bring a new student in, they began whispering to one another, with some even throwing curious glances at Xiaoya.

"I'm just sad." Xiaoya used a hand to cover her eyes, causing to tears to stream through her fingers. "I'm sorry, but just let me be weak for one last time."

"What's wrong? Did something happen? Do you miss your family already? Maybe Auntie hasn't left as yet, so do you want me to go call her back?" At a loss of what to do, Cheng Kexin asked.

"Xiaoyu, mom only did all this because she loves you."

Xiaoya looked up again, but this time she did not turn her gaze to the boy, but to Cheng Kexin.

"What's wrong? Did something happen? Do you miss your family already? Maybe Auntie hasn't left as yet, so do you want me to go call her back?" At a loss of what to do, Cheng Kexin asked.

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

New High School

Xiaoya nodded, then opened he backpack. Inside, there were still the books she originally intended to sort out during her father's annual retreat. But not that she thought about it, her father ad mother had probably planned all this earlier. Just as Xiaoya organised her books, a crumpled piece of paper was suddenly thrown on her desk.

"I'm just sad." Xiaoya used a hand to cover her eyes, causing to tears to stream through her fingers. "I'm sorry, but just let me be weak for one last time."

Xiaoya: "Hello."

Cheng Kexin thought it over seriously for a moment, but could only say defeatedly: "There doesn't seem to be anything. There's someone managing the self-study, but you'll be demerited for casual chatting."

Xiaoya: "Hello."

Xiaoya let out a sarcastic laugh. "If everyone's isolated like this, aren't they afraid of girls getting together with girls, or boys getting together with boys?"

Just then, again, another piece of crumpled paper was tossed her way, this time it landed on her bangs before rolling down her hair and into her book bag. When Xiaoya lifted her head, she saw a boy sitting on the middle of the class, holding his pen up while smiling at her. The boy had handsome features and his smile revealed a row of white teeth.

Cheng Kexin dazedly stared at this dazzlingly gorgeous girl, a girl unlike any other in her small town, who suddenly broke into tears, tears resembling falling rain.

Her mother then said to Cheng Kexin, "Please take care of one another in this dorm in the future. Like eating together, attending classes..." Without knowing why, Xiaoya's mother abruptly stopped her words.

The past is still vivid before her eyes, but now, the situation and people are not the same.

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

Xiaoya then took out a book, revealing a phone laying at the bottom of her bag, a phone originally belonging to Lu Xiaobei.

Xiaoya: "Thanks, but it's no trouble. The top bunk is fine."

Cheng Kexin didn't understand Xiaoya's question, making her reply, "Huh?"

Xiaoya opened the crumpled note which read: "Beautiful, that shot you just made was on point. You're both pretty and athletic. If our class ever elects its most beautiful girl, I'm definitely casting my vote for you."

"I understand, Mr. Li," Xiaoya replied.

Cheng Kexin was a petite girl wearing hair bound in a long ponytail, she was a very cute girl. She took the initiative in introducing herself to Xiaoya, saying, "Hi."

Annoying.

Xiaoya looked up again, but this time she did not turn her gaze to the boy, but to Cheng Kexin.

Cheng Kexin pulled a rack out of the way, inside it was a row of USB interfaces along with a universal charger.

The past is still vivid before her eyes, but now, the situation and people are not the same.

She had no intention whatsoever of faking sincerity, but then she thought about Lu Xiaobei. If she completely ignored Mr. Li, and treated him impolitely, Lu Xiaobei would without a doubt give her a warm but reproachful look.

Cheng Kexin sat on the platform upfront to maintain order in the classroom. Apart from reading her own books, she also scanned the class from time to time, so noticing Xiaoya looking her way she asked, "Yu Xiaoya, what's wrong?"

Xiaoya nodded.

Xiaoya nodded, indicating she understood.

Xiaoya's mother asked her, "The only remaining bed is a top bunk, are you worried about falling off?"

Next to the girl's dormitory was the canteen, and Cheng Kexin took Xiaoya to go get a meal card. "You can buy a meal card on the first floor, the boys also eat here too. The girls usually eat on the second floor, while the teachers eat on the third."

Cheng Kexin pointed to the podium. "The student self-study committee take turns monitoring the class, and today it's mine. So if there's anything you need just ask, okay?"

When Cheng Kexin was finished washing her clothes, only Xiaoya remained standing in the room, he mother had already left.

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

Xiaoya: "Can we sit anywhere we'd like, then?"

Xiaoya did not repeat her words again, however, as in that instant she recalled her time chatting with Xiang Yi, Lu Xiaobei and Mo Yichen until two in the morning during the holidays where she one declared shamelessly: "If my roommate was a lily, I would throw her out."

Cheng Kexin slammed her book on the podium. "Liu Xiangyu! What do you think you're doing?!

Xiaoya: "Is there anything fun?"

Cheng Kexin pulled a rack out of the way, inside it was a row of USB interfaces along with a universal charger.

"Nope." Cheng Kexin tugged her lips into a pout. "The school wants to prevent puppy love. Anyhow, the food from the teacher's canteen on the third food is a lot cheaper."

Cheng Kexin led Xiaoya to a seat on the far left. "This table and chair were added recently, it should be for you."

Xiaoya let out a sarcastic laugh. "If everyone's isolated like this, aren't they afraid of girls getting together with girls, or boys getting together with boys?"

Cheng Kexin thought it over seriously for a moment, but could only say defeatedly: "There doesn't seem to be anything. There's someone managing the self-study, but you'll be demerited for casual chatting."

Mr Li, "Of course, of course. You two were classmates with our headmaster, so we will all take care of each other."

Xiaoya opened the crumpled note which read: "Beautiful, that shot you just made was on point. You're both pretty and athletic. If our class ever elects its most beautiful girl, I'm definitely casting my vote for you."

The washing basin and lavatory were in the same compartment, and once Cheng Kexin entered, Xiaoya's face grew three times colder, while her mother's was no longer pulled into a smile.

On the metal frames of these beds, were the smatterings of rust. The beds each had a blanket, but only the upper bunk of one closet to the door had boxes on top of it packed with fruits and snacks.

Cheng Kexin stood between the mother daughter-pair, looking left and right, getting the distinct feeling she should male herself scarce. "It's rare to be able to return to the dorms during class time, no one is currently using the taps so I'll go wash some clothes."

Xiaoya swiftly turned the phone back off, dropping it back into her bag as if it was a hot potato.

Cheng Kexin led Xiaoya to a seat on the far left. "This table and chair were added recently, it should be for you."

And how her parents were so incredibly old fashioned, rigid and stubborn that she couldn't foresee even the smallest thread of hope.

Xiaoya opened them.

Lu Xiaobei: When I visited the Netherlands during my break, I came out to my mother, and she understood me. But she said she hoped I would stay there in the future since it's more inclusive there.

Cheng Kexin slammed her book on the podium. "Liu Xiangyu! What do you think you're doing?!

Despite the class now being noisy, Xiaoya felt at ease. Using her bag as cover she turned on her phone, and saw two unread messages from Lu Xiaobei on QQ.

The boy opened his mouth, attempting to explain, "How could that be considered a..."

Xiaoya swiftly turned the phone back off, dropping it back into her bag as if it was a hot potato.

Despite the class now being noisy, Xiaoya felt at ease. Using her bag as cover she turned on her phone, and saw two unread messages from Lu Xiaobei on QQ.

She had no intention whatsoever of faking sincerity, but then she thought about Lu Xiaobei. If she completely ignored Mr. Li, and treated him impolitely, Lu Xiaobei would without a doubt give her a warm but reproachful look.

"To me, this place and that one are all one in the same. Both are places you put me in, to lock me up, all because you think that I'm sick."

Xiaoya: "Hello."

Despite the class now being noisy, Xiaoya felt at ease. Using her bag as cover she turned on her phone, and saw two unread messages from Lu Xiaobei on QQ.

Xiaoya did not repeat her words again, however, as in that instant she recalled her time chatting with Xiang Yi, Lu Xiaobei and Mo Yichen until two in the morning during the holidays where she one declared shamelessly: "If my roommate was a lily, I would throw her out."

When Cheng Kexin was finished washing her clothes, only Xiaoya remained standing in the room, he mother had already left.

Xiaoya opened them.

Lifting her finger, Xiaoya pointed to the boy and said, "That student threw something at me."

Thinking about the past, Xiaoya felt her eyes sting.

She had no intention whatsoever of faking sincerity, but then she thought about Lu Xiaobei. If she completely ignored Mr. Li, and treated him impolitely, Lu Xiaobei would without a doubt give her a warm but reproachful look.

Lu Xiaobei: When I visited the Netherlands during my break, I came out to my mother, and she understood me. But she said she hoped I would stay there in the future since it's more inclusive there.

Cheng Kexin was a petite girl wearing hair bound in a long ponytail, she was a very cute girl. She took the initiative in introducing herself to Xiaoya, saying, "Hi."

She had no idea how she should tell Lu Xiaobei it was already too late.

Xiaoya let out a sarcastic laugh. "If everyone's isolated like this, aren't they afraid of girls getting together with girls, or boys getting together with boys?"

At her silence, Xiaoya's mother chimed in from beside her, "My daughter is a little introverted, so please take very good care of her in the future, Mr. Li."

Xiaoya let out a sarcastic laugh. "If everyone's isolated like this, aren't they afraid of girls getting together with girls, or boys getting together with boys?"

Perhaps their high school life was too monotonous, because once the second year students of Liberal Arts Class One noticed Cheng Kexin bring a new student in, they began whispering to one another, with some even throwing curious glances at Xiaoya.

"Nope." Cheng Kexin tugged her lips into a pout. "The school wants to prevent puppy love. Anyhow, the food from the teacher's canteen on the third food is a lot cheaper."

Like a puppet, Xiaoya followed her mother to the headmaster's office, then off to meet with the leader of the second year liberal arts programme.

She had no idea how she should tell Lu Xiaobei it was already too late.

Xiaoya rested her book bag on the desk. "Thank you."

But it was Cheng Kexin, who upon hearing Xiaoya's mother's query, too the initiative to reply, "Auntie, I'm the one sleeping on the lower bunk. So if Xiaoya can't get used to sleeping on the top one, I can just trade places with her."

With her mother also saying with a smile, "It's fine, you can go."

And how her parents were so incredibly old fashioned, rigid and stubborn that she couldn't foresee even the smallest thread of hope.

"Nope." Cheng Kexin tugged her lips into a pout. "The school wants to prevent puppy love. Anyhow, the food from the teacher's canteen on the third food is a lot cheaper."
